Since January 1, 2018, organizations, foundations, companies, supermarkets, and sports clubs have been able to claim the costs for the direct use of an AED. The Minister of Health, Welfare, and Sport (VWS) allocates a budget to reimburse the consumable costs of the AED after a resuscitation.
Before 2018, organizations could only recover the costs of using an AED through the victim's health insurance. This often did not happen because the civilian responder did not know the victim or the victim's family, or did not want to burden them after an unfortunate outcome. Now, AED owners can claim the costs from the Regional Ambulance Service (RAV). This scheme also reduces the barrier to purchasing an AED and making it publicly accessible. However, there are certain conditions for claiming the costs.
The possibility of reimbursement is open to every non-WMG healthcare provider.
Claims can be made with the RAV in the region where the AED was used.
